ROCKINGHAM COUNTY SHERIFF OFFICE2+ weeks agoAgencyM E D I A R E L E A S E : Rockingham County Sheriff's Office Investigating Incident of Man Impersonating a Law Enforcement Officer Date: Friday, April 5, 2024 [Wentworth, N.C.]— Yesterday at around 11:30 a.m., Rockingham County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a home in the Windsome Forest subdivision off of U.S.158 West in Summerfield on a suspicious activity call. Upon arrival, Deputies spoke with the female caller, who told them that a man, dressed in uniform-style attire resembling a law enforcement officer, came to her door and told her he was there to report to her that her husband had been killed in a shooting at the "Madison Walmart." The man called her husband specifically by name. Upset by the news, the resident phoned a friend. Confused and upset but still believing the man to be an actual law enforcement officer at the time, she told him her friend was on her way over. At this time, the man quickly left the area. The resident contacted her husband soon after, learning he was fine and that the story had been fabricated. She described the man pretending to be an officer as in his late 30s or early 40s, around 6 foot 3 inches tall, with a medium build and light-colored hair. The resident also told the deputies that the man was driving an older model Silver Dodge Charger marked like a Highway Patrol vehicle. Due to ongoing safety concerns, the Rockingham County Sheriff's Office is not releasing identifying information about the female resident victim in this incident. Anyone with any information about this incident or the suspect or vehicle involved is asked to call 9-1-1 to report the information to local law enforcement authorities or call Rockingham County Crime Stoppers at 336-349-9683. Rockingham County Crime Stoppers pays up to $5,000 cash for tips leading to arrest, and the callers remain anonymous.16Like6
